Tongo en Zimbabwe

NEARLY five weeks after the presidential election, the results have at last come out. According to the electoral commission Morgan Tsvangirai, the challenger, beat Robert Mugabe, the incumbent, but too narrowly to win outright. The official data said that Mr Tsvangirai had won 47.9% of the vote to Mr Mugabe’s 43.2%. This means there must be a run-off. But it is unclear whether Mr Tsvangirai will take part. The Movement for Democratic Change insists that its candidate won outright with 50.3% and that the official results are false.

Al parecer resulta que Mugabe no ganó después de todo, quizá por eso sea la violencia, o porque es connatural al socialismo; la cuestión, y no parece baladí, es qué pasará ahora que Mugabe no tiene la confianza del pueblo pero tiene el poder para imponerse.

Defendiendo Liechtenstein

Por lo visto el asalto ilegal de Alemania contra su vecino Liechtenstein ha originado una pequeña oposición en internet. Via bloomberg:

And yet, the attacks are completely unfair.

Places such as Monaco and Liechtenstein have a right to keep banking secrecy and shouldn’t be forced to act as tax enforcers for other countries. Germany should spend more time worrying about why so much wealth is fleeing its borders — and less time picking on places a mere fraction of their size.
